- YouTube was launched on the 14 February 2005.
- Twitter was launched on the 21 march 2006.

2) What is the definition of an influencer?
An influencer is someone who is able to persuade a lot of other people, for example their followers on social media, to do, buy, or use the same things that they do. They are often paid or given free products in exchange for doing this.
3) Give an example of an influencer and how many followers they have. Try and add some additional information, brand associations or other statistics if you can.
Kim Kardashian (who has 221 million Instagram followers) graduated from reality TV – another carefully crafted version of “real life”.
4) How big is the influencer industry according to the article?
Very big. By the end of 2019, the influencer marketing industry was worth some $8bn a year.
5) What are the problems associated with being an influencer?
There are the endless hours spent preparing for photo shoots, arranging photographers, changing outfits in cramped “pop-up tents”, editing photos and thinking up envy-inducing captions and hashtags. Demanding clients often force them to endlessly re-shoot photos or videos until they come out just right. There’s the pressure of always seeking to increase your follower count to drive up revenues.
6) Why is it suggested that audiences actually like being sold products by influencers?
The public believes that if a celebrity uses a product to enhance their appearance, then they may use it to realise their own aspirations of looking as beautiful as their role models.
7) What representation of beauty is often found on Instagram or other influencer sites?
It’s “a young face, of course, with pore less skin and plump, high cheekbones”, long lashes and full lips – generally white but with a hint of “rootless exoticism”:
8) What is YOUR opinion on influencers? Are they a positive or negative influence on our society and culture? Why?
Influencers can occasionally be constructive because they inspire others to take positive actions for the benefit of others and charities. Marcus Rashford, for example, established the Child Food Poverty Task Force and raised £20 million for the FareShare charity, which supplies food for foodbanks and meals for low-income families. But sometimes influencers can promote gang violence and lead a negative effect's on the young people.
