Reception Theory

 Reception theory

1) What is the preferred reading of a media text?

The message that the creators hope to convey. This expands on the notion that producers can use accepted standards and conventions (like stereotypes) to position the audience in a particular way and sway their reading so they embrace the desired message.

2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text?

The alternative interpretation contradicts the intended message that the creators aim to convey. Instead of accepting the intended meaning, the listener creates a different interpretation. Their personal morality, politics, or societal views may be the cause of this.

3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film?

The harry brown trailer positions the audience to respond to the teenagers as aggressive and violent.

4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an opposition reading of the trailer?

Young people may reject this reading and construct a opposition reading because not all young people are like that and it makes them look bad.

5) Write a 150+ word analysis of the McDonald's advert using preferred, negotiated and opposition readings.

The McDonald's advert is showing a big mac. Personally i love the big mac is the best in the town and best in the city. The advert shows the freshly cut lutes ans the freshly made beef and the best bun you can get in the market. Some people partly accepted and partly rejected because they might eat something else but not the big mac. But some people might go agents me because they might not eat beef. Some people might not like the McDonald's because nearly all the thinks are made out of chicken and some people are vegetarian.
